Kombucha, a fizzy drink made from fermented tea, is flooding our Instagram feeds—and our bellies. A dairy-free source of gut-friendly probiotics, this effervescent beverage also contains acetic acid, one of the main components of another favorite drink of ours, apple cider vinegar. But while ACV may literally be hard for some to swallow, kombucha comes in too many fun flavors to count, including everything from lemon ginger to coconut lime to lavender. The drinkable probiotic craze is so real, you’ll even find sparkling sips that get their good bacteria from kefir cultures.
To figure out our favorites, 15 The Vitamin Shoppe Health Enthusiasts put more than a dozen kinds of kombuchas to the test. Many exhausted taste buds and bubble-filled stomachs later, here are our top three picks:
GT’s Hibiscus Ginger Kombucha
This brightly-colored bevvie was an unexpected fan favorite. Our taste-testers gave it a 7.2 average out of 10, and described it as “refreshing and sour, but not overpowering.” It’s like we just teleported somewhere tropical.

Live Soda RootBeer Kombucha
Just one look at this bottle had us daydreaming of an old-school root beer. And while we’ve sworn off soda (most days), this kombucha totally satisfied our cravings. Our taste-testers agreed it tasted just like the real thing, giving this Live Soda flavor an average score of 7.5 out of 10.
Health-Ade Pomegranate Kombucha
Pomegranate might just be one of the most popular probiotic drink flavors. Heck, we love it so much we even made margaritas with it (check out our Instagram). Of the many fruit-flavored kombuchas we sipped on, Health-Ade came out on top with a 6.8 average out of 10. “Clean and fruity, but not too sugary,” said one of our guinea pigs.
