Being up on the latest health and wellness trends is literally part of my job, so I always get excited to test the new ‘it’ thing—and see if it works for me. Recently, hemp has taken over everything from supplements to skin care—and in the name of living a plant-based life, I just had to give it a try.
After making CBD hemp extract oil a daily ritual (Garden of Life’s Doctor-Formulated Chocolate Mint CBD Whole Hemp Extract honestly changed my life), my next step seemed clear: Skin-care routine, meet hemp.
The Vitamin Shoppe had just launched a line of skin-care products by Andalou Naturals called CannaCell that featured hemp stem cells—and I was intrigued. A long-time lover of masks (I made my What’s Good debut testing the cult favorite Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay), I picked up two CannaCell masks—D.Tox and Glow—to try out.
What To Know About Andalou Naturals CannaCell Skin-Care
If you’re into better-for-you beauty (which I am), Andalou Naturals’ cruelty-free skin-care products feature nature-derived ingredients you can feel good about putting on your face.
The CannaCell products, in particular, use hemp stem cells, organic hemp seed oil, and other plant extracts and oils to nourish your skin with antioxidants and a variety of nutrients, like vitamin C, vitamin E, and omega-3s.
The CannaCell Glow Mask has a gelly-like consistency, and uses enzymes to exfoliate and refresh your skin. The D.Tox Mask, meanwhile, stars a creamy clay to help skin detoxify.
Hemp, Meet Face
Having tried many a face mask (and many natural products that didn’t seem to do much), I was pleasantly surprised by both CannaCell masks.
The D.Tox Mask, which felt creamy, smooth, and cooling, left my skin looking thoroughly cleansed and revived. It was like the ever-present pores in my nose had been vacuumed out. It became a go-to after a long, stressful day, or after I’d been wearing more makeup than usual.
The Glow Mask, on the other hand, had a translucent look and almost bouncy feel. Practically invisible once on my face, it seemed to gently eat away at dead skin. I rinsed it off to find my complexion looking brighter, but not irritated or over-exfoliated. (As anyone with sensitive skin knows, this is a major win!)
Final Thoughts
Since first testing them out, I’ve used both the Glow Mask and the D.Tox Mask at least another half-a-dozen times each. I’ve also raved about them to anyone at the office—or in my personal life—who would listen.
Whether hemp is truly a miracle plant or just the trend of the moment, I will happily continue to include it in my skin-care routine.
I’m such a fan of CannaCell’s masks, I’m going to have to give the rest of the line a try, too. (I’ve got my eye on that Facial Serum!)
