If you felt drained by all of your screen time before the novel coronavirus drastically changed life as we knew it, well, the pandemic certainly didn’t do you any favors. From back-to-back Zoom meetings to virtual school, screens have truly taken center stage in our lives—and many people are dealing with serious tech fatigue.
A new survey of 2,000 Americans conducted by OnePoll on behalf of The Vitamin Shoppe reveals that 61 percent of respondents have experienced tech fatigue during the pandemic. In fact, the average respondent said they’ve been spending an additional two hours per day in front of a screen.
Of the survey participants who’ve felt burnt out by all the screen time, 69 percent specifically pointed the finger at video calls. So, no, you’re not the only one tired of virtual happy hours, game nights, and budget meetings.
What’s more, a striking 68 percent said their tech fatigue has contributed to their stress and worry amidst the pandemic.
Finding Ways To Cope
One bright spot: The never-ending Zooms—and the constant stream of stressful news—this past year have motivated many of us to explore new ways of finding (and maintaining) balance. Fifty-six percent of survey respondents said they’d experimented with new strategies for achieving some Zen.
For instance, of the 44 percent of survey participants who said they had used CBD before, 48 percent said they’d first tested it out during the pandemic. And it sounds to have been a worthwhile practice for most, with seven out of 10 CBD users saying it helped them hang onto a sense of balance this past year.
